Play More Games Together in 2019-image

One of our favorite resolutions of 2019 is this: play more board games with loved ones. Welcome to the Artistry Blog. Today we’ll be sharing a short list of board game recommendations for your pleasure. Already own a bunch of great games? No worries. Comment below with your top picks of “must-haves.” We’re sure that the residents of our apartment community in Indianapolis, IN will be happy to read about them! Ticket to Ride Millions of copies of Ticket to Ride have been sold all over the world. Travel from coast to coast in the United States, Nordic Countries, Asia, and more — there are over 10 different maps that you can choose to play on! Here’s a short description from the publisher, Days of Wonder : “Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure where players collect cards of various types of train cars that enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities in various countries around the world.” Charterstone Charterstone is a fun game for up to six players. You’ll construct buildings, inhabit a shared village, place stickers on the board, remove cards from the game, and permanently alter the gameplay in unique ways. We highly recommend this beautiful and fun gem of a game. Here’s a quick description from Stonemaier Games : “The prosperous Kingdom of Greengully, ruled for centuries by the Forever King, has issued a decree to its citizens to colonize the vast lands beyond its borders. In an effort to start a new village, the Forever King has selected 6 citizens for the task, each of whom has a unique set of skills they use to build their charter.” Railroad Ink Railroad Ink is a beautiful little game for one to six players. It plays in about 30 minutes, takes seconds to learn, and is (in our opinion) one of the best games to come out of 2018. Here’s a description from the publisher, CMON : “New lands have opened up and the race is on to create the best network of rail and road lines through it. In Railroad Ink, players roll the Route dice and must then draw the subsequent results on their individual Route boards. Players score points for having long interconnected Routes, as well as connecting the entry points to their board, plus having Routes through the center of their boards. But beware, they’ll lose points for leaving unfinished lines…”

Cultivate Gratitude this November-image

November is the perfect time to reflect on what you’re thankful for. Whether you share these thoughts with your loved ones at the dinner table or record them in a journal, there are many ways to show gratitude. Join our apartment community in Indianapolis, IN as we show gratitude during this holiday season. An easy way to focus on things that you’re grateful for is to start writing in a gratitude journal . Head over to a local store and find a journal that stands out. While you might just choose a simple notebook, finding a journal that matches your style (maybe it has a great image on the cover) can help foster creativity. As you begin to write, try to be consistent. Write at least three to five things that you are thankful for every day (morning or night, whatever works best for you). Also try to be as specific as you can. For example, instead of writing, “I’m grateful for my job,” you can write, “I really like the people I work with at my job,” or “I’m grateful I have a job; I know many people who don’t.” As you record things, you’ll begin to find new things that you’re grateful for — things you probably didn’t think of before. Another fun way to reflect on what you’re thankful for is to go on a gratitude scavenger hunt. This is simple and can be done with friends and loved ones. Simply write down a list of topics. These can be things like “something that makes me smile” or “this has helped a lot of people to live better lives.” Write down 10 to 20 items. Then using your camera, go and take pictures of objects that represent those things you’ve written down. If you’re doing this with friends, separate (individually or in teams), take photos, gather together, and compare the different photos. Make sure you don’t use a picture of the same object to cross off multiple items on your list. The whole point of this activity is to find as many things as you can to be grateful for. Thanks for visiting the Artistry Blog. We hope you enjoy your November and holiday season!

How to Turn Your Apartment into an Escape Room-image

For the month of October, the Artistry Blog is focusing on one of the latest trends spreading across America: Escape Rooms! An escape room is a physical adventure where people solve different puzzles in order to get out of a locked room. There are different themed rooms, each with secrets, and they’re usually dressed up to look like different locations — a prison cell, an old attic, or maybe a space station. With only a certain amount of time to escape, players must work together in order to succeed. While there are many nearby escape rooms available, it’s possible to bring the fun of escape rooms into your apartment. Try out one these different “escape room” themed games and see if you can escape with your friends. Escape Room: The Game Escape Room: The Game turns your apartment into a real-life escape room in four different scenarios. “Take the viral social experience of Escape Rooms to the comfort of your own home and for a fraction of the cost that you would pay! Included in this game are 4 unique 60-minute escape room puzzles that will test your cranial skills. Use images, gears, words, keys, shapes, maps and more to solve the three stages within each escape room.” Unlock! This is a tense escape themed game for 1-6 players, ages 10 and up. Enjoy playing three different scenarios: enter a secret laboratory to obtain a mysterious serum, thwart the plans of a despicable professor, and overcome traps on a dangerous island. “ Unlock! is a series of cooperative card-based escape adventures for up to six players. Each Unlock! game consists of sixty cards depicting objects, maps, and puzzles that can be activated, solved, or combined in an effort to access other cards and areas. The free companion app tracks the time allotted to win the game, while also offering hints and unlocking new, and necessary, elements. When the players believe they have figured out the code to escape each adventure, they will input the number into the app and escape the danger, or lose even more time in finding the real sequence.” What escape room themed game are you most excited to play? Let us know if you’ve been to one of the escape rooms in Indianapolis, IN by sharing your experience in the comments. Thanks for reading. Happy escaping!
